"Re: VMotion problem - 'device with remote backing'" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 19:10:22

This should aid the problem without the be to shutdown the VM... decide "lay VMware Tools" on the Virtual forge - this ordain create the VMware Tools Installer Mount. Select "End VMware Tools Install" - this ordain unmount the Tools Installer. A evince of warning the VMware Tools Installer Mount will forcibly disconnect the remote device so if someone has genuinely mounted a Virtual CRDOM it ordain be lost. Hi,I got a similar communicate during VMOTION. To end the issue i did the following.1. Rihgtclick on the Virtual Machine and decide 'alter Settings'2. decide (bring out) CD/DVD Drive 13. On the alter transfer side under Device status uncheck the box 'Connected'4. Try VMOTION (drag and drop the Virtual machine) and it should bring home the bacon.5. If required then check the box which was unchecked in step 3 (for the moved VM on the aim server). Hope this helps!Regards,Ronald In this scenario the CD/DVD Device Status shows up as "Connected - client unknown" and all of the properties are greyed out so you can't Edit the Settings. I am not absolutely certain what the reason is for this behaviour but I am able to recreate it... Connect a CD to a VM then shutdown & power off; now shift the CD (i e set to "Client Device") then power approve on. Now try to VMotion and Hey Presto "Device 'CD/DVD Drive 1' is a connected device with a remote backing" and all options greyed out. The only certain workaround that I have open for this is to "Install VMware Tools"/"End VMware Tools Install" or change surface better undo the CD before shutting drink the VM! One more addition. The previously posted solutions did not work for me but i open that my guests CDROM was configured to "copy IDE" under the Mode section in properties of the CDROM. I set it back to Passthough IDE and vmotion worked with properly. DG Had this problem with one forge this morning. To fix it. I had to remove the cdrom AND floppy disk -> bootup so windows removed them from dev mgr -> shutdown and re-add them. (For good measure you may believe deleting the hidden devices.)FWIW the cd rom was originally set for "Emulate." Changing it to Passthrough did not work for me. I had to shift both devices.

"Magazine back issues on DVD" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:03:52

claiming the magazine didn't undergo the right to do that. This scared other magazine publishers from selling digital versions of their approve issues. did have the right to sell back issues on CD-ROM. The said digital archives were desire library microfiches which freelancers never got paid for either. (More about this.) I'm not going to argue for or against the courts' decision. I'm just glad that I'll be able to go away buying complete back runs of famous magazines. I already have the complete run of and am looking forward to getting the the end run of (all 246 original magazines from 1970 through 1998) and the complete runs of Excepting of cover that library microfiche isn't/wasn't affordable/available to the general public and libraries also generally have beat bound collections of the periodicals. The inspect was settled previously with Tasini vs. The New York Times. Hardly surprising that they've now go up with a new way to not pay authors but make money while doing it. The big problem with many of these digital collections is that the full text is not searchable. I undergo the National Geographic collection and it is only indexed by keyword and (I think) the article title. I understand the technical/economic reasons for this but I wish that as the technology become cheaper and faster more publishers will release their cram with a full-text index. (That said. I also have the Spider-Man collection but I can be without full text search on that. I evaluate.) I would desire to see Harper's (which dates to the 1850s or so) channel all their cram and Life magazine what with all the great photos. Kevin my (meek) understanding of Tasini is of a ruling in advance of authors by finding that a print article and a Lexis/Nexis version of the bind were different things from a copyright standpoint. Do the recent re-rulings in the National Geographic cases change that? Or do the publishers only undergo the right to re-publish in digital create provided that the change (layout etc...) is preserved? Wow. I never expected this to happen because of all the legal and procure issues associated with the magazine. I run attach's Very Large National Lampoon Site (www marksverylarge com) and usually comprehend about these thing ahead of measure from insiders hoping for a little free publicity but this is a big surprise to me. I evaluate it's very good news. (Nothing beats reading the real thing though what with all the clever printing tricks and different cover stocks they used for the sake of a joke.) I believe there was a separate ruling for the National Geographic inspect stating that while Tasini applied individual articles or pictures or whatnot that it was proper for The New Yorker to consider an entire issue or a series of issues their creation. I also evaluate that not having the full text searchable was part of that ruling. So you might as come up get used to not having full text. But in any case that's the cerebrate they are obliged to present a run of issues as a run of issues they would not be able to change just the Norman Mailer articles or something. Personally. I evaluate this is a good ruling and as a prove we get the much-criticized Complete New Yorker which is far from perfect but I'd rather be at imperfect original page layouts than ASCII anyway. We cover the Complete New Yorker extensively at Emdashes com -- by all means go tour us! Sorry for the close but it is right up our alley. # 7: "Nothing beats reading the real thing though what with all the clever printing tricks and different cover stocks they used for the sake of a communicate." I agree. Mark. I really liked NatLamp's "Miracle Monopoly Cheating Kit," which contained come about cards and money in very large denominations. Jewels. I don't evaluate cd-roms existed back when your grandparents were saving stacks of national geographics in their attic. The contract with the writers probably covered distribution via electric car and video telecommunicate but the web and optical discs slipped through a loophole apparently. say: Because our contracts and procure law says that we own them. My first very first assure ever stipulated "first North American serial rights" which means printing in a North American magazine the first time. The compose then gets to sell reprint rights. There was no have in mind of being pressed on little plastic disks for compilations and those subsequently sold and in any inspect. I would be entitled by contract to author's copies of those as well. Which I never received. Answer: Our contracts often do say so. Explicitly. In words change surface idiots should understand. Unfortunately greedy megacorporations are in the habit of acquiring old publishers and squeezing as much cash as they can from them and can't be bothered to do things desire review old contracts or even act them on file properly. It's much cheaper to hire a lawyer to emit "Ha ha ha -- we own it all!" and poke and prod at the system until they find a adjudicate who'll see it their way. As someone who spent much.

"News: TurboGrafx CD Titles On VC In October" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:42:17

The Virtual Console news keeps coming. Titles from two TurboGrafx add-ons will be with us in October... Hudson ordain be releasing titles from the PC Engine CD-ROM and PC Engine Super CD-ROM this October (The PC Engine is the Japanese name for the TurboGrafx). The games will be released in all regions and will be available for 800 Wii Points each. Hudson have not revealed what games will be released but they say that 10 or more titles will be out in 2007 with 5 or more planned for 2008. The filesizes for these titles differ from around 50MB to a massive (in relation to the Wii's internal memory) 400MB. It is unknown if Hudson ordain only use the games with low file sizes or if Nintendo undergo a affect waiting for us at the end of September that would allow for these large games to be downloaded in October. We'll bring you more news as the TurboGrafx CD Virtual Console games are announced. obtain: Well: For the big ones Nintendo should at least make VC-Games bootable over SD-Card if so that wouldn't be that much of a problem either (SD-Cards are not the expensive anymore and have big sizes now too - although I accept the Wii currently only supports ones up to 2GB - of cover this might be changeable over firmware update). But also: The Wii has USB-Ports making external USB-Harddisks and USB-Sticks useable over firmware-update shouldn't be that much of a problem either... "Nintendo the cheeky buggers are sneakerly getting us to go online and get our wii system updated. Well I won't do it all my US games ordain become useless."Urm if that's some subliminal way to admit you have a modchip then you don't undergo to fear of updates. So far no software modify has blocked out any existing modchip. Eraser there's nothing subliminal about my mention. My Wii is not modded. I use freeloader. I be to update my Wii so I can go online and download the limited VC games but if I do I can kiss Tales of Symphonia. Skies of Arcadia. Fire Emblem and I-Ninja goodbye.

"JAlbum albums on CD-ROM too" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 15:18:04

About a year ago I was contacted by UK publisher Dorling Kindersely in London. They are producing a range of photographic and illustrated educational books for children aged 8-13 called "" each with a different theme like "Crystal & Gems". "World war I" or Dinosaurs". Each book is bundled with a clip-art cd containing 100 images. They wanted the images presented in a way readable on both Windows and Mac and organized in hiearchies. They were also on a tight timeline. JAlbum turned out to be the perfect fit for them. As JAlbum albums can be used freely for both non-commercial and commercial purposes I naturally told them to go ahead with JAlbum. I didn't evaluate much more about this afterwards but a bring together of months back a bunch of these books arrived at my doorstep to my affect (Thank you DK). I've got to express you that these books contains fascinating reading and well illustrated material. They are also a very good example of using JAlbum to share images on CD-ROM.
