i have a lot of cds and want to collect onto my new computer any suggestions for the easiest/fastest method for doing that? i have the usual programs (itunes wmp etc.) but thought that there might be better ones i hadn't heard of.
Do yourself a favor and pay the money on dBpoweramp compose. There is a 30 day trial for the software. This will secure rip your CD collection to eliminate any ripping errors. I would suggest ripping and storing to a lossless format like FLAC. I have around a 1,000 albums on a $100 500gb drive using FLAC lossless conversion. From there you can use the included dBpoweramp converter for group conversion of the entire library from FLAC to whatever lossy change you like (mp3 aac wma) for portable players. This is as future create and error create as you're going to get and a wise solution so you don't be to sight yourself in the future re-ripping your collection. This program does an very good job of tagging you audio which is important in the desire run especially with a large collection. If you're storing your collection in FLAC format you might be to look into slimdevices ( ) for lossless playback on your home audio system.
Secure Rip is your beat insurance against doing the project over although a CD has to be REALLY thrashed for it not to rip properly. Without doubt you should rip to a lossless format--FLAC is my choice also. The main gripe against WAV is that it won't hold on tag info in the register. As for DbPowerAmp the free version is a great drive but lacking in the group functions apparently found on the "compose" version which sounds worth a try. For myself. I used J river"s Media bear on which includes batch conversion and a comprehensive tagging and organizational suite.
Flac here too. Then play back with ASIO or Kernel Streaming in something like foobar or winamp. (lossless rip and perfect lossless playback so playing your rips is as good as playing original disks.)(I don't experience the dbpoweramp program maybe it already includes lossless playback with similar features to ASIO or KS?)Troy
