"What is the easiest way to create a website for a beginner?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-19 12:11:20

If I just landed on this planet from Mars and knew absolutely nothing about where to start when it came to creating a website where would you instruct me to go to start learning?Ideally. I would want an instant drag and drop style website that is a whopping great menu down the left hand side of my screen where I could pick templates headers borders colours etc. Then I could choose the layout that I wanted whack in a load of unique content into the centre section put my Adsense adverts in the left hand column my Amazon affiliate links on the right hand side perhaps a Google search box at the top and to boot perhaps a few affiliate links at the bottom of the page to try to help my website to monetise itself. I would want to keep things very simple both for myself and for my visitors so that they didn't feel lost amongst the minefield of information out there. Is there anything I can use to accomplish this goal? Now. I might not be from Mars but I might as well be. When it comes to this subject. I really am just about as thick as they come and I don't mind saying so. Even though I'm as bald as a coot. I've been tearing my hair out figuratively speaking trying to get my head around this subject all week. However with the sheer abundance of information out there on the internet. I have no way of differentiating the good from the bad to the the truly ugly. My mind is now so overloaded with information that I am vexed beyond belief and therefore am hoping that one or two of you here might just find it in your hearts to be kind enough to do me a favour and help me out on my way. Now. I have a small portfolio of domain names not too many just under a hundred. Some are pretty awful when I first started buying them but quite a few of them are very good indeed premium names. What I don't want to do is to just let them idle around on some parking page like NameDrive - I would much rather create my own 'parking pages' with Adsense etc on them. Let me give you an analogy. When I go to buy a new car from the showroom. I don't need to know how they put the entire thing together the doors the electric windows the electrical wiring and a myriad and one other things that make the car complete. All I need to know is how to open up the door get in put my safety belt on start the car whack it into first gear release the handbrake look right look left and whack my foot onto the accelerator and away I go - simple. Similarly with a website. I'm sorry. I do appreciate that some of you just love all these new fangled coding words but to be honest it all reads like blinkin' doubledutch gobbledegook to me and flies straight off over the top of my head. It's like trying to learn French and I hate. I mean. I really hate learning French. Useless language. I knew it at 12 years old and 30 years later. I still have no need for that confounded language and likewise for all this web design talk. I'm the sort of chap that likes to call a spade a spade and a shovel a shovel. This way. I can concentrate on what I need to know best for the present moment allowing me to get on with other much more important things in my life. I'm literally being driven up the wall and around the bend trying to get my head around what I need right now to simply drive my website/s forwards. So please. I'm begging you please please please give me a hand to learn what I need to know right now. I've got the 12 month package with Site5Host. I've got FileZilla although I havn't got the faintest idea what it does or where the ignition key is to start it's engine up and then I've got this fancy gadget called NVU which I believe is a sort of spanner with a thingymejig that can help me to actually design a site but how to get the three tools working as one cohesively and fluidly goodness knows. Maybe I havn't got the right tools you tell me. What I want more than anything else is to keep this as simple as can be for now. Don't need all the whistles and bells that can come later as I make progress changing up a gear. Is there anywhere I can go online to get myself to where I want to be?Would you please please have any simple suggestions at all?Perhaps a very patient individual would be kind enough to help me out just remember the KISS principle. Keep It Stupidly Simple. I really am as thick as five short planks of wood on this subject. A great many thanks and best regards. Mark Desperate ain't the word for it mate it's driving me doolalley. So what does your link do then?I know what download com is but the dooberry provided how exactly is it going to help me please? What problem will it solve? If you just want to make simple pages then nvu should be fine. Make a new file and make it look how you want and when your done save it somewhere. As I recall nvu works like most office software what you see is what you get. FileZilla can be used to upload files but the file manager in siteadmin is easier if you only have a few things. Name the file index html and stick it in the root folder of a domain. (public_html or public_html/domainname). Sorry this is where I'm getting stuck. I'm so sorry to sound like such an idiot but how exactly do I do this? What do I press where and what do I enter where?Really do appreciate your help. Many thanks. Mark Login to siteadmin either through backstage site5 com or yourdomain com/siteadmin. The user name and passwords should be in the email they sent you. When in site admin click website tools and then file manager in its sub menu. A new window should open and click on the little picture of a folder by public_html. Near the top of the list there should be an upload files button click that and upload your index html and any images etc it needs. Once the files are there go look and your domain and see if it works.

"UA researchers create robot driven by the brain of moth" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:27:34

Charles M. Higgins. UA associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and doctoral student Timothy Melano presented their findings and outlined the mechanics behind the robot’s movements. The robot’s communicate is guided by a tiny electrode implanted in the moth’s brain. Higgins said specifically to a single neurone that is responsible for keeping the moth’s vision stabilise during flight. The neurone transmits electrical signals which are then amplified in the robot’s base and through a mathematical formula a computer translates the signals into action making the robot act. The moth is immobilise inside a plastic tube mounted atop the 6-inch-tall wheeled robot. To get the moth to reproduce flight. Higgins and his team placed the moth in its apparatus on a circular platform surrounded by a 14-inch-high revolving protect painted with vertical stripes. The moth’s neurone reacts to the movement of the stripes and the process begins. The hit of a moth is about the coat of a penetrate of rice. Although small. ‘its compact size and simplicity allows for an efficient way to do brain investigate,’ Higgins said. The Society for Neuroscience meets annually to show advances made by scientists who bring home the bacon to chew over the architecture of the brain and use that knowledge in the create by mental act of new machines. ‘Combining the chew over of machines and the mechanics of the human body has led to great advances that undergo direct health benefits such as the development of the mechanical heart. Unfortunately we are nowhere as advanced in our chew over of the hit as we are in the study of the heart,’ Higgins added. ‘Scientists have reached a frustrating inform in understanding the brain — we know how it operates to an extent but don’t know how to forbid hit damage or ameliorate it when it occurs.’ Higgins said. But that may change in the future. Higgins has thus far been able to undergo robo-moth move left or alter but not forward or backward. The longest recorded movement has been 88 seconds. Higgins’ work is funded through grants from the National Institutes of Health and the U. S. Air Force. Both agencies granted funding to help gain an understanding of human visual operations. Higgins’ research is a go toward a future in brain engineering that will help ameliorate damage or regenerate lost hit functionality. Source:

We be an easier come to bring home the bacon with Views: 1) Upon clicking on a tab the user is presented 'Recent...' but the View picklist already has a view name selected. This can be confusing to users. I suggest clearing this picklist so it says 'None' or 'Recent...'. 2) Allow the User to select a hit Default View. When the User clicks on a Tab it would show the results of their fail believe. 3) Add the ability to copy a believe. 4) Make it easier to add change and re-order the believe columns. © Copyright 2000-2006 salesforce com inc.
