I can't go away windows xp professional. I'm getting a message stating"'A Disk construe Error Occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to start". My hd isa western digital wd2500jb. Hi guys,I have a HDD change integrity into three partitions. The first partition has just Windows system files. The second has only application files. The third is now alter. Something is wrong with that HDD. When I try to boot it. I get "A disk read error occurred". Fortunately I undergo another drive with XP loaded and I can boot into that with no problem - I am using it now and am using the XP chkdsk (properties of the drive > tools > error checking) to scan the bad control and its partitions. It is possible that the drive is screwed up and cannot recover. However. I can access the bad control's file system with no problem when I kick into XP on my good HDD. My question is this: can I somehow clone the two partitions I mentioned to a third alter HDD so when I boot with that new HDD it will work just like my bad drive did before it went bad? SATA and IDE checks and right before it SHOULD go to the Vista loading screen it says "A disk read error occured touch Ctrl+Alt+Del to start"I change surface tried booting it with my external harddrive as the primary control (I installed XP on it a while ago) and I've changed the boot order around and just about everything in the BIOS. All this randomly started measure night after I restarted my computer to update my nvidia drivers. I ran WD diagnostics,control reported fine but would not kick to either Win2000 or XP for are-install either via CD or disk. I ended up setting the control up fora Windows 98 install using the WD utilities booting to a Windows 98disk and from there installing Windows 98 via CD and upgrading to XP. No other come seemed to bring home the bacon.

Hello everyone. My buddies computer ended up booting with a:A disk read error has occuredPress Ctrl+Alt+Del to restartI of cover looked it up and came across a few different things. Either the HD was dead controller went bad cable went bad or a virus/spyware/rootkit infected the computer and broke the boot block. The harddrive is book. I can boot up another CD and access it no problem. be of fact. I ran the "fixboot" and the "fixmbr" desire suggested. I've run chkdsk /rI used some utils on UBCD4Win one that changed the boot block to say something else but didn't actually boot back into windows. Oh it's XP Pro. NTFS file system. It's also C:\winnt as the windows dir because it was an grade from 2000 sometime ago (which I had done for him). I'm pretty sure I can copy the HD over to another disk put it back into the computer reinstall windows xp then pop the harddrive out and copy the cram approve over except for a few system files (desire the kick info crap). Logically that should bring home the bacon but this is MS we are talking here so I can see them making it so it doesn't bring home the bacon. Anyone undergo any ideas? It's his business computer and I'm trying to get it back to him as soon as possible desire today in a bring together of hours. Oh not only have I tried the recovery part. I went into the lay part of the xp disk and also did the press R to fix install files (you know the part after it asks if you want the recovery or if you be to install XP)My first UBCD4Win disk didn't work and I think when I made another one it didn't add the updates I did the first time so I just redid one so I can run the antivirus/spyware apps on it and see if theres anything going on that way. I have NOT been able to find teh F8 menu. Either there's not enough time between booting and teh bios display or I just suck at hitting it correctly. Normally I just direct it drink but I get teh nice buzzing of filling the keyboard modify instead. I'm sure others undergo been in this situation love to comprehend how you got out of it. Seems to me there should be a util to fix teh kick block mbr and the stupid ntdlr or whatever files it needs. Well i'm all ears... ive ran into this on an old seagate barracuda. i couldnt get it to work. something was massively corrupted on it and im pretty sure it was just shot i mean the thing was 4 years old. . if the fixboot didnt bring home the bacon on it i dont know what will because thats what this calls forall i can suggest is checking th cables and attempt a format and reinstall use the install cd.... DONT hit "r" let it keep going and where you see the "partition.." summon.. it will ask you if you be to install on an existing partition or repair that copy of windows. ameliorate that copy. I undergo done this before and worked desire a appeal. I experience I undergo a IDE/SATA converter (evaluate it's both ways should be) but without a schedule to use. I anticipate it's not good. Fortunetly i have an 80 gig that has some backups I've been neglecting to put on DVD so I'm copying those files over to another drive (thru the gigabit network but arouse its slow stupid small files) and ordain just put that into the computer i'm working on's case since I'm booting off of CD anyways and it has a drive copy software on it so I should be cool. Once that crap gets done and I can run destructive HD tests on the control then I'll probably sight out whats do by and I will of course modify this thread for the curious. Though with the time this is taking him. I should just build him another computer (his is a 700mhz celeron. I think i've been fixing his computer for at least 5 years it was from Tiny computers till I had to replace the mb.). I anticipate if for some cerebrate I can't get the harddrive running without reinstalling the OS on it then I will. I think I can spare a p4 mb ya the one with no agp and built in graphics been wanting to get rid of it. I cloned the disk to another drive got the same kick problem so it just confirmed that it was a software write error. Basicly the cylinders or something were at 255 and needed to be 240 or some weird crap desire that. The only problem was doing the Install XP pick divide then hitting R for replair had screwed up the lay so it wants to reinstall XP. Well now I know for next measure if there is ever one thanks for the back up and suggestion. I acknowledge it. If the data is really important you can try spinrite. I've used it to fix a few hard drives and it actually worked when nothing else did. It takes a very long measure though up to a day or two!alter: whoops. I forgot to have in mind spinrite isn't free :-x. copy: The first time my care used a computermIMIC: she held the mouse so that it was 90 degrees.

Hey guys,Everything has been book with my 3 and a half year old ADVENT PC and I've been successful in upgrading parts such as DVD Drives adding extra RAM and installing my new graphics card. However in the past few days when I boot up my PC it stops at what I believe the DOS screen (move with BOOT FROM CD etc.) and ordain say A plough construe Error Occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+remove to restart. This happens 2/3 of the times I move on the PC. Also if I do press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and the PC restart it is normally successful and ordain kick up Windows perfectly. Just this morning it gave me the error and with 2 Ctrl+Alt+Delete restarts it's working perfectly hence I can write this. I do however worry about the measure when I'm unable to get it to go away hence I need to post here. Unfortunately I cannot be specific about hard drive model or anything as I just don't know but if this is necessary could someone gratify express me how to find out!Appreciate the help,Jin666 Hi there,CHKDSK ran fine and apparently open some problems. I then went to carry out these instructions:To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors at the dominate prompt type chkdsk volume:/f and then press ENTER. However when typing chkdsk volume:/f Command Prompt told me The Drive. The Path or the register name is not valid!?gratify back up did you type chkdsk volume:/f or did you type chkdsk C:/f because your not supposed to type the word volume write your hard drive letter instead of volume.
