"Eileen Chang" posted by ~Ray

Damn. This woman can create verbally. I first came across her work when I had to read "The Golden Cangue" for a Chinese lit class I took in college. Eileen Zhang (Zhang Aileen) has perfected the art of the novella and short story. Most of her work is set in pre-WWII/WWII era Shanghai and Hong Kong. Chang's characters are not the hard scrabble peasants of Mo Yan's Gaomi township. Chang focuses on the fading elite. Old families whose fortunes are made or waning. She focuses are modern. Western young adults caught in the traditional lifestyles of their parents. How can you not love such passages as:When the drops of rain hit the cement and caught a bit of light they twirled around and shot out beams of silver light--long long beams of light like the silver skirts of ballet dancers. Her prose is full of beautiful and elegant metaphors and phrasing but not so full of them that they weigh everything down. Life was like the Bible translated from Hebrew to Greek from Greek to Latin from Latin to English from English to Mandarin Chinese. When Cuiyuan read it she translated the Mandarin to Shanghaiese. Something did not come through. If you are unfamiliar with Chang's works start with the exquisite collection. This collection of novellas and short stories encapsulates her work well. These are short glimpses into brief encounters between men and women. Men in women in love men and women in lust men and women trapped by circumstance and time thinking the other might be able to help them. Plus be at how she shifts in time in "The Golden Cangue"The color bamboo furnish and a color and gold landscape scroll reflected in the mirrors went on swinging back and forth in the wind--one could get dizzy watching it for long. When she looked again the green bamboo curtain had faded the green and gold adorn was replaced by a photograph of her deceased husband and the woman in the mirror was ten years older. I could drown in Chang's prose. I get lost in it. It is evocative of an era. Her scenes are lush her dialogue and plot are fraught and taut without crossing that lie into ick. She never over explains things if anything she under-explains them. Such is the case of. I had to read the end three times before I fully understood what happened. For the first half of this novella we see a young woman waiting for her old lover (both married.) She is nervous and tense and the reader easily falls into the trap of believing her emotions are due to worry of being discovered. And of course they.

Posted on 2007-12-15 15:42:27

I am using NetBeans 6.0 with tomcat 5.5. I am able to read the configuration from XML file and load it when running the applet directly (without deploying in Tomcat). But when deployed into tomcat server i am unable to read the setting from the xml file. The flow is as follows:Applet opens the url ("http://192.168.124.11:8080//Settings xml") -- > Applet's Jar is called by the jsp page Settings xml is at CATALINA_HOME\webapps\ROOT\Please help me.. Thanks in advance The server log doesnt show anything as error. Could evaluate out any problem with the server logs. I am able to run the applet through my IDE and read the settings XMLpresent in the server. But when i try to use the JSP page and call the applet to fill the applet is not reading the XML but it loads book in the web browser... gratify help me out But does it show whether the applet even tried to connect to the server? But when i try to use the JSP page and call the applet to load the applet is not reading the XML but it loads fine in the web browser... gratify help me out What? You say it loads book in the web browser but not the JSP page; do you convey loading from the disk using the browser vs loading from your web server using the browser? You should probably test using a plain HTML file before you start using JSP. It's good to destroy every complicating factor.

"Defraggler 1.00.023 Beta" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 19:04:03

Piriform the company that brought you CCleaner and Recuva now brings you a file defragmentation tool. It differs from other defrag tools on the market by enabling you to quickly and simply defrag the files you want to without having to process the whole drive. Simply run it select the file and defragment in seconds. No more struggling with the Windows defragmentation tool!Features: Besides defragmenting individuals files how come up does this defrag compared with Auslogics Disk Defrag 1.3 which is an excellent drive? Is there really room for this? Wow.. just thought I'd furnish this a try as I've been looking for a nice replacement to the default Defrag. Imagine my affect when it decided to crash my system. No error window no "Hey something's wrong!!" just black check then restart. When I logged approve on I got the "Serious crash blah blah" communicate. Nice. Looking for an error dump to hopefully send to the developer. I was really attracted to the "Defrag individual files" feature - arouse Guild Wars. Why does everyone evaluate all of these defrag newcomers are good? Just get PerfectDisk or something very well established and well-reviewed at least. Paying some money for good defragmentation software is worth it. You still pay for Defraggler if you be (via donation). I desire this system much better than shareware/adware/blahware. There are some really good software based on donation copy. You're not restricted to 30-days or forced to see a nag check. If you desire the software you donate. If you don't you don't. Simple as that. PerfectDisk isn't bad. I've tried Auslogics but it didn't do anything outstanding outside of the basic (some people like this). Diskkeeper's interface is way too busy for my comprehend. OO defrag and voptxp are okay defraggers. So after trying out all these different defraggers. I comfort haven't open the right one yet. Probably never will. But PerfectDisk comes darn close. My first thought is this program is a front-end to sysinternals app. But then I saw this on their FAQ page:Q. Does WinContig use Contig by SysInternals to act the analysis/defragmentation process?A. Absolutely no. WinContig is not a GUI for Sysinternals Contig nor Contig is embedded within WinContig. The defragmentation and analysis engine of WinContig is based on the API of the operating system. Thanks for mentioning this defragger. This is the first time I've heard about it. I'll give it a try. CCleaner was developed by Neowin member BigDog don't experience if he's still involved."Piriform" the website name means "pear-shaped" which is a British metaphor meaning "it's all gone do by". Anyone know how to create sparse files in. Hi there. I was wondering if there was an easy way to read the first four bytes of a file. The ones in particular I'm looking for are When you say bytes do you really convey the first four bytes or do you mean the first four numbes? I have a suspicion you convey the latter. Uhh.. the first four hexadecimal numbers if you change state the file in a hex editor. As I evidently didn't evince when you change state it in Notepad the first four characters are either IBSP or FBSP. Private Sub add1_Click(ByVal sender As System. disapprove. ByVal e As System. EventArgs) Handles add1. move TextBox1. Text = arrange. alter Using fs As New FileStream("c:\test txt". FileMode. change state) fs. "TSP read input file problem" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-24 15:41:07

You're currently browsing the C++ divide within the Software Development category of DaniWeb a massive community of 209,331 software developers web developers. Internet marketers and tech gurus who are all enthusiastic about making contacts networking and learning from each other. In fact there are 2,403 IT professionals currently interacting alter now! If you are in the IT industry or are just a technology enthusiast you might sight just what you're looking for in DaniWeb only takes a minute and lets you apply all of the interactive features of the place. Greetings. I'm currently doing a project on Traveling Salesman Problem. But I'm not asking for answers for the whole project. I just started my programming lessons so I hope can get some back up from all of you. About this project: Initially you have to read 2 enter files. Input1 txt and Input2 txt. An example of the contents for these 2 enter files are as follows: (Showing location label first 3 numbers are for longitude and the next 3 numbers for latitude. Units for longitude are deg min sec)Africa 111 85 23 2 14 59.72America 112 27 55 2 29 35.29China 101 21 22.31 2 20 21.29 and so on..... My problem right now is after I wrote the codes to read the first file as shown below it always show "Can't change state enter File!" as its cout prove. Can I experience where is it gone do by? Another question is since I'm using arrange to store all the data is using pointer will be easier than using arrange? convey you for your help----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #consider <cstdlib> //to use exit()#include <iostream>#consider <fstream>using namespace std;const int arrange_SIZE = 100;void getConnectionValue(int connection[arrange_coat] int connection1[ARRAY_SIZE]);int main(){//Declaring arrayint connection [arrange_SIZE];int connection1 [arrange_SIZE];getConnectionValue(connection connection1);go 0;}void getConnectionValue(int connection[arrange_coat] int connection1[arrange_coat]){//Declare be adrift and open the first txt fileifstream inStream;inStream open("Input1 txt"); if (inStream disappoint()) {cerr << "Can't open enter file!\n" << endl;exit(1);}int i=0;while (!inStream eof()){inStream >> connection[i] >> connection1[i];cout << i+1 << "numbers " << connection[i] << "and "<< connection1[i] << "\n" << endl;i++;}inStream close();} Can you try dumping your text file in the c: drive then dress your program so this line:inStream open("Sarawak_Cnx txt"); becomes: inStream change state("C:\\Sarawak_Cnx txt"); What happens now? Argh... I got it! I put into the do by directory. Thanks for the advice. One challenge. Is the code above able to change to using pointer instead of arrays? Um no using an array and indexing should be easier to understand than pointers and is perfectly ok. I'd stick with that. Just to let you experience the way you are reading in data from a file is do by and horribly flawed. Shall I show you the correct way. #consider <iostream> //basic i/o#include <fstream> //file enter out#consider <arrange> //arrange handlingusing namespace std;int main(){ //open a file for reading ifstream read ("foo txt"); string chunk; //this will be the string which holds each evince or number while ( read >> accumulate ) { cout << chunk << endl; } read change state(); //close file return 0;} to read files instead of eof as that has problems. As a newbie I don't think it is important to bore you with the details as to why eof is bad. Obviously after that you need to convert the arrange to actual numbers. But I'm not sure if you are allowed to use strings. Let me know.
