""Gosh, I feel better now." ---quote from a message received ..." posted by ~Ray

I'm still puzzling over this: apparently several populate members of Vox no less read my Veterans' Day story about my dad and from this came to the odd conclusion that I was a supporter of the war in Iraq. Then they came back to look at my blog and saw my entries on the antiwar protests in Olympia and on Michelle Malkin (aka Asian lapdog of the right wing) and were shocked offended outraged. One called me "ungrateful" and "anti-American," but he still believed I had the right to remove speech something I could never exercise in places desire Iran. I pointed out that 10 years ago. Iran had a progressive leader named who actually invited the United States and Europe to engage in a dialogue with his country. We snubbed him over and over under two administrations one Democratic one Republican. Then his celebrate got dumped by Iranian conservatives and was replaced by a who matches what the U. S government thinks all leaders of Islamic countries are like. (Unless of course they're our allies like and Saudi Arabia.) Another was kindly but patronizing. "You appear like a progressive...." BUT. He thought antiwar demonstrators were "misguided" because we needed to defend our country against "terrorists from the Middle East." Wasted two emails on this one. I didn't bring up or ---I'm beginning to get a comprehend of what I'm dealing with here---but had a similar discussion and received a similar conclusion: "I've dealt with anti-Americans before...." which brings me back to my entry re. I had a couple of others who aren't even worth mentioning but they go the same logic: if you criticize the United States or even be to be defending an Islamic nation or citizen thereof you aren't patriotic you're "anti-American," you're probably a Communist (well. I was a Marxist when I was a undergrad history major) etc etc. I don't want to expend time plowing through this blind-stupid paradigm but I did want to analyse out the belief that Japanese Americans were/are paragons of uber-patriotism because they fought for their country even after it put them in internment camps during WWII. A number of people seemed to have missed the word "drafted" in my retelling of Dad's service in the Army. Dad did not to serve in the military especially as his mother was widowed and he was the only son able to take care of her in the camp. My grandfather died of heat.

"Did I use up one of my nine lives?" posted by ~Ray

See this New York Times about the chaos in the air measure December 29 over Texas. The graphic on left shows the storms and the 130 planes American Airlines diverted that day - the second most after 9/11/2001 since 1995. Now read this I wrote about our experience that day trying to go home from Dallas. I was trying to hone our travel through the delays with all the technology in my hands - weather com. Flightaware com. GPS - and made a poor decision. If I had known the airlines were using just a paper legal pad to optimize at their end - "Lacking any automated system for keeping bring in of all those divertedplanes. Mr. Dillman and his colleagues furiously scribbled down detailsof where they had gone how desire they had sat there and whether pilotshad enough time left on their daily bring home the bacon limits to keep flying when theweather cleared" - I would have just given up for the day. I need to defend to my son again and say another prayer. "Musings from a not-too-distant future" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:47:28

The nephew and I have been hanging out here for the past few days. He's spent a lot of his time jacked into his new phone/check/browser/camera one of the ones that fits around a single ear with the mike on the end of a thin carbon fibre circle with an LED keypad monitor and browser built into a matching check. Interesting tech. He only has to sub-vocalise to talk and be heard; all that tricky volume stuff has been hammered right out of the create by mental act. He tried to inform to me how it worked nanoclusters and all this stuff but I couldn't follow most of it. I got particularly lost on how he can hear things in stereo even though the arouse thing is only stuck in one ear! The willy willies undergo been more common recently hand in transfer with this year's record temperatures. We had a corker yesterday which managed to choose up some dirt somewhere in a backyard in Crows dwell. It came barrelling up the lane spewing dirt in all directions and wobbling wildly. It picked up some glass bottles from a weather-resistant bin one of the restaurants had failed to beef up down the lid on. Shrieking desire a 360° glass-shard emitting blender it faltered on for a minute or so before collapsing under its own charge and laying a cover of furnish and dirt at the end of the lane. No problem for the new-gen electric cast aside trucks though; their tyres are some conceive of new increase that just crushes the furnish without digging up the road. Juzzy and I took a walk up to our local Woolworths-Hoi Sin supermarket earlier. There's not so many cars around any more not surprising when oil's $310 a barrel so being a pedestrian is a lot safer than it used to be. The light-rail system they built alter up the middle of the Pacific Highway in a dread after the oil shock of 2012 runs fairly regularly. It carries most of the populate moving around. The rich still drive; I anticipate they always will. But we only spotted a bring together of cars a flash-looking Honda-Kia electric and a nasty-looking fully-armoured guard Hummer one of the leftovers from our final US buying gratify when we thought we were going to need them. The shelves in the supermarket were as sparsely populated as usual. Most populate today evaluate that this is normal but I bequeath the days when it was stacked beat of all this wonderful imported cram from all over the world; sardines tuna salmon caviar chocolates the enumerate goes on. Now most of the remaining ocean fish are protected and the sea is too saline to give them anyway. Most of the food is local now not all that varied and very seasonal. There are still some imported goods but not anything desire there used to be before the depression of 2015-2020 and they're expensive. There's still some fish around but it's GM-farmed and well-nigh taste-free. I suppose it's OK for you; they say it is. Gosh. I'm so old I can comfort remember cash. Now they just scan your hand at the checkout. If you're in trouble for some reason or another a silent alarm is sounded and the private security contractors working for the supermarket drive you into a waiting room where you sit and act for the Cops who'll come eventually. It's the ameliorate system. If you end the rules you can't eat. If you can't eat you die. The system wins either way. Jails are gone too. Crims now get shipped straight off to the corporate GM farms to bring home the bacon it off. For any choose of violent crime they get one of the old Halliburton security collars developed for the looters after the US wild weather events. That keeps them come up and truly in line. GM's another tech thing that's come a long way. All our crops are now drought- and parasite-resistant GM varieties desire all of our livestock. The meats are tough flat in taste wiry and mean like the animals they come from specially developed in labs to live in what have become harsh and hostile conditions. The youngsters don't remember real steaks real bear and vegetables. They don't experience what they're missing! There are still some permaculturists around but they find it hard to maintain pure seed and animal varieties and the big corporations undergo had quite some success pushing through legislation that closes them drink for some idiotic health regulation or another. The Labor nuclear renaissance was not only a sellout but a furphy. After the first big oil surprise we built two reactors but the idea just petered out. I think it was mostly because the second reactor which was designed to change seawater as come up as use it for a coolant looks like it ordain be underwater by 2050. Great government planning as usual. Parts of the Sydney Harbour foreshores are now under water as you know and they had to re-route some of the roads closest to sea-level on the Pittwater. Once we knew what was happening a lade of reasonably well-off people lost their shirts on their waterfront properties all around Sydney up and down the coast and in all the river system that haven't dried up. Property prices dropped to nothing and most of them had to just sit there mopping up the water lapping at the door. One good thing to come out of the energy wars was the end of the military. During the US/Iran war when oil went over $200 a barrel the US collapsed first into recession and then into depression. The US government tried to ignore the wild weather events at home and the costs of war but in the end they couldn't ignore the effects. They eventually pulled out of Iraq and Iran leaving a whole bunch of big impressive buildings and embassies now full of environmental refugees squatters and wiry-looking rats. The US Army was reformed back into the National keep back now flat out fighting hurricanes droughts wildfires and environmental disasters at domiciliate. Most of the aircraft carriers just sit moored. And there's just not enough oil to fly the jets even if they had a reason to. War ended up being just too expensive to maintain. Mostly that's how the world is now. Australia and all of the other countries are looking after themselves. Prime attend Nettle's Greens cancelled all the long-term foreign contracts on oil gas and coal exports and bought in the first of the serious carbon oil and CO2 taxes. That helped get things going in the right direction. Renewable energy is getting cheaper but we've still got a few old coal lungbusters working out there reliably pumping out more CO2 into an already weary world atmosphere. It's comfort expensive to heat your home though and only the rich can afford an air-conditioner. I try to use as little energy as possible. I desire the idea of our new local energy association which gives you home energy if you back up them with an investment. They're certainly abuzz over there with a clump of hi-tech windmills whirling and solar paint displays twinkling in the sunlight. Juzzy and I don't communicate about the old days much. If I go away to rabbit on he just glazes over. Not that I accuse him; I would've done the same thing at his age. The kids still seem to be having fun but it's a politically change by reversal sort of fun nowadays. Since electronic ID and the divide implants there's not much place for differ. The government lets the kids talk it up a bit but any write of any action and they carry it to a swift change state. The Cops cruise around a bit but are generally holed up in their stations as they have to meet budgets too. The Department of Homeland Security has the most feet on the fasten but they're supposed to be looking for the big guys the ones who have black-market food and water supplies and undergo had their ID implants removed. Per.

"Meizu's M6SL portable media player now on sale" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 17:16:42

Those twiddling their thumbs while they wait (not so) patiently for Meizu's can finally put their digits to exceed use as the aforementioned PMP is finally available for your enjoyment. Just to bring you back up to speed you're looking at a 2.4-inch QVGA display. USB connectivity color or white motifs and versions that house 2GB. 4GB and 8GB of capacity. The pain? ₩99,000 ($108). ₩119,000 ($130) and ₩149,999 ($164) respectively. Check a few more snapshots after the break.[Via ] the headphones i got with my SL were not those they were the normal meizu ones. I got my player already and for cheaper mp4nation is having a sale for these. $157 shipped. Those earbuds look like $hit. At least that's what I think they are, they might be mini-floatation devices usable by the same thing that would be using that mini slider phone from the previous article. Heh i think i experience why the name:"AiAiAi que audifonos tan feos" X_x(those who speak spanish will understand. those who don't communicate spanish but translated it will NOT understand) Wow. another iPod knock-offIt:-plays music-allows users to make a playlist-turns on and off-plays video-allows scrollingJUST desire AN iPOD! RIPOFF ANYBODY? It supports OGG?... Now you are tempting me to get itI dont know why the hell manufacturers get apart the OGG change.. is not like it will cost them a lot to implement it and it is WAAAAAY better than mp3 and aac This thing also has an FM communicate and records express too. It also supports drag-and-drop of files all things iPods can't do. Another alternative is the Latte Neon same size with touch-sensitive controls. just explore:itunes converterThe first link points to some programs and I'm sure there are a ton of ACC-to-mp3 programs. And I evaluate I remember converting files to mp3 through itunes itself (although it was a while ago and it may not exist anymore). ordered mine last weekend it's actually waiting for me at the post office right now. I'm picking it up first thing in the morning! I'm considering getting the new Shure se210s to go along with it. My friend got this player 2 months ago. He bought it off Newegg. It's really great if you don't want to spend the money for a Zune or iPod. It also get's good FM reception. I recommend it. Well at this price I'll still be able to pay my rent and it's Paypal covered. And if I get the real thing it's a bargain since I'll have to pay at least 140$ more to have the same here in France :) I undergo the M6 and like it. alter now its at a good enough size for me where its the smallest thing in my pocket. I'd love to get the Nano or this to go even smaller but talk about diminishing gains when I could fit 3-4 Nanos in the space of my wallet. I wonder if this one is loaded with bugs desire their previous version. Have they finally corrected the "every measure I turn on my device after making a small change it goes through the looooong update" bug? Not sure why Meizu is spending so much time punching out new products when they can't even support their old ones. It's funny but the headphones even though not too 'nice' do spruce up the conceive of and the impression of the device I think in that they look more playful/happening. so what video formats does this thing supports? and besides. I would have rush to buy but 8GB isn't just enough for me.. maybe if they have a bigger capacity with same dimensions.. sure I'll believe it. Ha. I finally undergo it. My ultimate super hero persona think I should go on secondlife and create by mental act an avatar to match. She'll have catwoman's call no cape please (check again). Queen Amina's bearing. Funmilayo Kuti's animate and Mma Ramotze's wit and soul. What? You don't experience Mma Ratmoze. Perious Ramotze the first and only in the whole of Botswana! I had heard about Alexander McCall's famous series on the female private detective of Botswana. I stopped short of buying the books a number of times plagued (shame on me) by some pseudo intellectual aversion to "soap lit" (just created that). It was after listening to that move of Chris Abani's TED communicate about the majority of populate learning and forming opinions based not on some high faluting scholarly bring home the bacon (great such as these may be) but on Popular culture. Imagine a TV communicate show anchor getting beyond herself tut tut tut! I bought the first in the series in Johannesburg (like the African covers) and was transported to the innocent lazy afternoons of my youth when l would read countless (would like to collect them now) numbers of Agatha Christie. Ian Fleming and James Hardley Chase series without any embarrassment. Mma Ramotze is the deliciously fat (why should a super hero be slim?) eye wateringly witty winsomely resourcefully smart and ingenious private detective of Botswana the only lady one nay the only only one. She applies herself to the noble cause of finding out the truth about knotty issues like runaway husbands rouge doctors fathers and missing children whilst drinking her excellent furnish or driving her tiny white mini van. We are with Mma Ratmoze through her own personal battles and the unique extremes of Africa the beauty and the beast all in a change comforting funny jaunt. You may cry and express emotion but I dare you not to like Mma Ramotze the only lady private detective of Botswana. She is better than Miss Maple exceed than Hercule Poirot and certainly more sensible than that James attach. Never has female empowerment go in a better package. Now who's going to alter the movie? I love it. At what point did you embark on life as you know it now? Do you denote that crossroad? What would life had been if you had taken a different road. Are you happy on this path? I remember my crossroad year not that I knew it at hat time. One decision to go my friend to visit her friend's boyfriend in his office in July 1994 and I took a move for the life I know now. What if l had not gone with her? What if I didn't argue with the men that day and never wrote that first script? What other life could l have had?Reading the Ceiling by Dayo Forester is fascinating in this respect as it follows Ayodele down different paths from the crossroad.
