"New Read Aloud Plan" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 00:17:58

I have been struggling with what to do for Connor's reading time. He likes to read unless it's Magic Treehouse and then he LOVES to read. The problem is he's read all 30-something Magic Treehouse books! We undergo read alouds that we do and he loves being read to (who doesn't?) but the independent reading was something of a struggle for him to get interested in. We do book basket which is interesting for me but really not so much for him. The theory of book basket is just to alter books available for your child to leaf through and get interested in that go along with what you are learning about that week. Sounds great right? But Connor wants to look and then move on. So I've decided to just pick out some allot chapter books that either deal with something we are learning about or something history based that may or may not be what we are currently studying. I started out with a few books below his reading level that he could read easily in a sitting just to cultivate the like of reading and so he doesn't see it as something to "get through" or as something stressful. He went through the first two books easily and enjoyed them. Today I assigned his new book and he must read a chapter a day of cover he is accept to read more. So this was one of the books I got at the used book hold on awhile approve it's called. It's about escaping slavery and the underground coerce. At the beginning of the book there are the words to the song the Drinking Gourd: You can listen to it it's a beautiful song that shared the the path of the Underground coerce in them. The drinking gourd is label for the big dipper. We also went toand went through an interactive journey as a slave where you had to make a decision leave to be free or stay etc. Connor agonized over that first choice for awhile going back in forth over why it would be good to leave and also the benefits of staying. Of course we undergo no idea the actually agony of the individuals who went through this but it was an "a-ha" moment for him to think about the choices that had to be made so long ago life and death choices. Wow. I don't think I can bequeath anything I was taught in 2nd evaluate. I almost feel Connor is taking high educate level courses with the amazing amount of details and opportunities you are giving him. Would you believe homeshcooling my girls......... I could just walk them over. You are really doing a great job! There are some great books over at the Rosetta Projects as come up. I just started Hannah on.

"Drawing the line..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 17:16:23

and. I was in this reading group in my children's literacy course with these three white females who pretty much had their own thing going on. One of them is really annoying to me because she talks constantly and has this whiny nasal express. I'm quite sure all of you have met the type.  My ears bleed every time she has to utter something in class. Initially as you all know I was heated about how subtle they were in outcasting me (I think other things are at compete here if you experience what I mean) but I managed to take a step back and just try to act calm and do what I needed to do.  This week was measure week for us to cater on the book we are reading and I was looking forward to being with another group. However before that could happen the professor planned a assort activity where you had to write a lesson plan based upon a book that the professor gave to each group.  She "randomly" mixed up some students  in to groups in the categorise.  Well for some reason I got stuck with two of the girls from my reading assort and the whiny chick was one of them.  Well I was a little peeved but any way the professor gave me the schedule and I was instructed to read to the my group.  We stepped outside of the classroom to give ourselves some lay to do some work.  We were alloted about 15 minutes for the activity and then we had to come back as a class to discuss what lesson we would come up with. The moment we sat down she immediately started barking orders. I started reading out loud and wouldn't you know it she started to complain. First she was saying I wasn't showing any pictures as I was reading and then she was saying how I was reading too fast.  I adjudge I was reading it out loud but not showing any pictures because with a read aloud it can be really time consuming and we only had limited measure to read the entire book AND come up with a lesson intend.  I decided to take the time to show them the pictures but again it was going to eat up the limited time that we had. Then I notice she and one girl kept giggling while I was talking and I calmly asked her what are you giggling about she said. "nothing".  The next thing I said was. "You know what I don't like your attitude nor your tone".  She said. "What are you talking about". I said. "You are sitting there giggling while I am trying to talk". She said,"I have no clue as to what you are talking about you came out at me desire some mad man". In my mind I am saying to my self in what way did it come across to her acting like a mad man?  Anyway to make a desire story short we eventually got back on task after wasting several minutes arguing. Then I noticed one of them went to the bathroom and the other made up an excuse to follow conform to. I guess because one she didn't be to be sitting alone with me after our heated conversation and two they wanted to gossip in the bathroom about the angry black mad man encounter they just had. I didn't tell the professor of the incident as of yet because again it was towards the end of class. I am contemplating speaking to her privately sometime time next week.  Even worse is that my current reading group didn't get to meet up this time because of we ran out of time so now the groups have been extended one more week which means one more week I have to be in the same breathing lay as this chick.  We did get choose new books which meant a reshuffling of students in reading group and this time my group will only have three members but get this it ordain be two of the girls from these lesson plan assort.  I am trying to figure out what did I do do by in my former life to have to bear this torture?   Oh what fun I will undergo... Wow!  Stylin' hit the nail on the head.  Something must be done but composure should certainly be at the forefront.  Speak on the situation as a whole not as an individual if that makes comprehend.  In other words bring to light the fact that learning is being disrupted and stifled.  Be strong. Black man.  Fay had the "Bebe kids" syndrome and she shook it.  You've got the "Holier than thou" kids and you can shake it as well.  "This too shall pass".  Peace. Lastly. I'm sure you're in a time of testing.  Something is being worked into you or something is being worked out of you for a specific purpose.  You are being made stronger (perfected) for your life's intend there are people you ordain cater in the future with the same set of annoying behaviors/attributes (or worse) that won't even move you to think about it (let alone act on it).  Consider this situation a blessing it means that you are moving forward in your intend.  This thing shall pass and you will be better because of it. Man oh man. I could conclude the act!  I know that I would have had the same emotions or probably would have slapped her ass into tomorrow for grinning while I'm talking then having the brace acting desire an idiot saying she doesn't know what I'm talking about!!  As we say in the islands. "manipulate knows what tree to climb".  That is to say they know exactly who to eat with and who not to eat with.  Black white color or color that's down right rude and quite blatent as to what she's trying to do!!
