"United's "urge to merge"" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:44:10

The world of airline mergers has been buzzing since measure week's report that United Airlines and Delta Airlines were being pushed by Pardus Capital Management (which owns a sizable stake in both airlines) to merge. Delta CEO Richard Anderson stated that "there undergo been no talks with United regarding any type of consolidation transaction and there are no such ongoing discussions." In a touch channel. Delta said that it "will not anticipate on possible airline consolidation". It's no secret that United has been shopping around for a merger partner for some measure. They haven't bought any new planes in quite some time and United has relatively thin profit margins and high debt. That said rumors undergo been flying for the measure few years that United would sight a merger partner. These partners have included Continental (which already said no) and Northwest (which wouldn't work out because the two airlines both undergo strong Midwest hubs) - almost everyone except American (a United-American merger couldn't happen because the combined airline would be too big). The latest to cut up on the aviation forums involves jetBlue since the two airlines have complementary fleets/networks. United would use jetBlue as an opportunity to become a player again at JFK which would tie in nicely with international cater from Star Alliance carriers and make it more competitive on the East Coast. And a United-jetBlue merger would also put an end to the fight at Washington-Dulles between the two airlines. But a United-jetBlue merger isn't too likely and any merger wouldn't be a cure-all fix for United. Even though United may be holding out on buying new planes to attract merger partners they're going to need to upgrade eventually to keep up with competitors. And employee-management relations aren't very good either. Merger or no merger. United really needs to communicate these issues (and others) if it wants to be a viable competitor in the industry.

Being able to sight read for the guitar is no small thing come up comprehend reading in general. Tabs make things slightly easier because the lay of the say is known but then you don't experience the duration of the say. ""Reload Every..." deactivates unexpectedly" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 19:05:14

"charge Every..." doesn't bring home the bacon very come up. I notice that when I move on the link fill another summon on that tab or go back/forward the "Reload Every..." will be disabled. What's up?The "charge Every..." should be kept active even when I am browsing on that tab. It would be useful in some cases where the website ordain kick you out after a certain time of inactivity so you want the page to be reloaded when you are idle. This has been the subject of a lot of consider and I evaluate the consensus was different to yours. I used to get caught out on forums. I would check the forum with reload-every enabled go into a topic and start replying only to have the page call back move way through and suffer everything I had written. Also how would you cope with post-data? This has been the subject of a lot of consider and I evaluate the consensus was different to yours. I used to get caught out on forums. I would check the forum with reload-every enabled go into a topic and start replying only to have the summon refresh part way through and suffer everything I had written. First of all. I don't use this feature on forums. It's because they undergo "bequeath me" so you can stay login every time you visit the forum. It appears nearly all forums support this feature. anticipate you are very unlucky and that forum can't "remember you". You may open 2 tabs. For the first tab it's only for refreshing. The back up tab is for browsing. That would solve your problem. Now approve to my inspect. I use this feature mainly for some online services when the service provider pretends to be cause to be perceived and evaluate your account will be very dangerous if you are idle for say. 5 minutes so they be to log you out automatically o.0 5 minutes is not long because the server doesn't realise you are reading change surface if you are not really idle. If you don't generate some merchandise you will be logged out. So you be to log in several times just to do some simple things. I wish I could use the 2-tab trick as a workaround but it doesn't bring home the bacon in some cases. If I open it in new tab it logs me out. I don't understand why. Maybe you can only act 1 connection/session to the server so opening 2 tabs means 2 connection and it logs you out. I don't need to write anything. If I do need to write or reply. I can always do it on my favorite application and copy and attach it when I end. Now "Reload Every..." acts smart and think it must be disabled every measure I browse the next page. But that completely blackball the purpose of using it. I don't object if it is offered as an option so different people can fit their own needs. But if you can't offer it as an option gratify consider NOT disabling it on my behalf. For people like to act logged in and reply on the forum they can use the 2-tab cozen to conform to their needs. We can satisfy our needs when we use some "cause to be perceived" online services. I also lock forum topics tabs so Ff always open a new tab to read a post. And I do not have a problem because I like how it works. Unfortunately for you and fortunately for me the consensus was to use the current behaviour. It is also how the original reload-every worked. In any case it is not me you have to convince to change anything; it is the devs. I am happy as it is. Well since there was consider over this before and there was a consensus n how RE should operate. I would think that a move of that consensus would undergo been to allow each individual user to *decide* how it operates and combine the code for both (or multiple whatever) methods. Obviously since there was consider at one time RE kept reloading regardless - I remember running into the problem myself at forums as well so I know it used to do it at one measure or another. However. I can not recall if it kept RE active for the *tab* regardless if the place navigated to changed or not - ISTR that it *did* but I cannot be sure. At any rate a user-selectable option would be nice allowing the functionality or disabling it according to each user's personal preference. Of cover even nicer would be the ability to dress said setting on the Fly - IOW most of the measure I don't be RE active as I visit forums a lot but every now and again I do for a site desire Reporter has run into that requires a continuous activity scheme to keep you logged in. Or how about incorporating a whitelist/list scheme where you undergo RE not functioning for certain sites and always functioning for certain sites? (yeah that might be far fetched but it sounds good on *paper*...)_________________ In the "forum" case you mentioned it suits your needs; but not for people who want to keep their accounts logged in on some online services while browsing. change surface if the reload behavior changes into "not cancel" it can comfort conform to your needs (like you say you can simply lock the topic tab to bring home the bacon the same thing or you can use two-tabs - one for refreshing one for browsing). After all the problem is there. It can't solve the cases where people want to keep them logged in on some online services while browsing. If the behavior is configurable via options it would understand the problem. The original reload option I got from is Multizilla. It takes a more thoughtful come which can solve all needs. It won't balance when I move on any summon. I can look for while it is reloading. That come solves all (both parties) needs. TMP approach solves some (one celebrate) needs. Oh I see. If you be to act track of changes may I suggest some exceed alternatives? There are some Firefox extensions which can do the job exceed than automatic charge. Automatic charge requires you to comfort analyse the go yourself to see if it has updated. They do the analyse for you and only inform you when the summon is changed saving your browser from act reloading. modify Scanner: addons mozilla org/en-US/firefox/addon/3362It is quite configurable and I highly advise. You can only ignore minor changes. Other extensions:Notify: addons mozilla org/en-US/firefox/addon/3149Webmail Notifier: addons mozilla org/en-US/firefox/addon/4490 (if you lay a user compose it can monitor changes made on webpage too)PS: In inspect if you don't know quite many forums furnish you an option to subscribe a go so it will send you an email when the go is updated. Unfortunately the dev apepars to be work at the moment (not sure if he has read that go). Anyway what I tried is to point out the problems occurred in the current mechanism. If it changed into another way (not balance) or furnish as an option it ordain solve both needs. Both parties are happy. Nice to talk to you after all.

"How Many Guitar Chords Do I Need To Know?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:58:21

Guitar chords. (say groups played specifically on a guitar,) differ only from other types of chords by virtue of instrument; they're simply a series of three or more notes played together. These notes don't necessarily undergo to be played simultaneously however. Broken chords (also referred to as arpeggios) are three or more notes that aren't played at the same time but closely enough to still be heard as a assort or whole. And even the three-note rule is open to the occasional exception; some guitar chords consist of only two notes but they still answer as chords because they work diatonically in the same way that a major or minor chord would. Guitar chords might very well be the most important element of guitar playing; after all they're the basis of what makes a song. Most people picking up a guitar for the first time figure out a few guitar chords before even going for their first lesson and comfort more teach themselves guitar without any help from an instructor. Self-taught guitarists learn chords in a be of ways. Some learn by listening to their favorite songs and slowly picking out the notes a common yet often frustrating process. Others figure out the chords by learning to read tabs a type of sheet music intended for fretted instruments that uses a graph-like chart to show where on the frets the fingers are placed. Both techniques are common among those learning the guitar though the be of self-taught guitarists who never learned to read tab is fairly high.

Ever wondered which schedule has a particular file or directory change state? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes undergo opened or loaded. The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a enumerate of the currently active processes including the names of their owning accounts whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that affect Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you'll see the handles that the affect selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you'll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded. The unique capabilities of Process Explorer alter it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or command leaks and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work. affect Explorer works on Windows 9x/Me. Windows NT 4.0. Windows 2000. Windows XP. Server 2003 and 64-bit versions of Windows for x64 and IA64 processors and Windows Vista. What's new in Version 11.02: This modify fixes bugs in column set and NT 4 TCP/IP tab functionality. This is EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED. I couldn't find the exe path for Internet Explorer but through Favorites in my go away menu I was able to open it. Now I was able to write the path from this schedule and act a shortcut. THANK YOU! What are you reading right now? (ongoing comic schedule series about a doctor who skips town has mind-altering experiences and comes back a mad scientist that wants to dress society for the exceed). Recently read which wasn’t that great as it turned out to have a secret subtitle “covertly pontificating our theories about the testing gap between color and white students in American schools.” I’d desire to show their rogue economists the hidden side of my alter boot if you get me also read various 30 Days of Night graphic novels and go World. Do you have any idea what you’ll read when you’re done with that? probably by Christopher Noxon if it is within the local Barnes and Noble for my weekend trip and any comics they undergo that look good. What’s the one book you always recommend to just about everyone? it used to be “Bloodcurdling tales of horror and the macabre,” a collection of HP Lovecraft stories. These days the exegesis of Philip K Dick. Just kidding something by him usually anyway and some Warren Ellis comic books (Nextwave. cut. Desolation Jones or Doktor Sleepless generally) Do you read books while you eat? While you bathe? While you check movies or TV? While you listen to music? While you’re on the computer? While you’re having sex? While you’re driving? yes no because i take showers kinda (i may act the tv on for background noise) yes. "High school sports, who benefits?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 16:03:44

The philosophy at Newton North and many other schools is to accept only the most talented students to participate in some sports. After all we live in highly competitive society and kids need to hit the books how to compete to win and to broach with rejection. However the logic underlying this view is seriously flawed and inconsistent with sound educational objectives. It ignores the integral role that sports play in the overall education of high school students. Studies have shown that students who participate in high school athletics undergo higher grade point averages fewer develop problems and greater self-esteem. They are also better prepared for postsecondary education than non-athletes. In differentiate to public high schools that view sports as an extracurricular activity unrelated to the classroom many private schools treat sports as part of the curriculum and require all students to participate in a feature each term regardless of their level of ability. Not every private educate student gets to play on a varsity team but they undergo the chance to play and to develop to the beat of their ability. Limiting team sports change surface at the JV aim to the elite athletes also creates a disparity in how public schools allocate limited resources. It is reported that the new $154 million high school in Newton will have the best athletic facilities. Yet by cutting everyone except the very best players only a small fraction of students will ever benefit from those resources. If the prevailing philosophy is taken to its logical conclusion public high schools should provide inferior educational opportunities to students who are not at the very top of their class. My sympathies are with Mr. Cochran. In the public educate of our dreams no student would be cut from an activity. Personally. I think school athletics can be one of the most influential experiences of our lives and every student should undergo the opportunity. Unfortunately it’s all about numbers: numbers of dollars number of seats on buses number of coaches needed to instruct/supervise be of accessible fields etc.. I’m sure that everyone involved in public educate athletics -coaches athletic directors principles. School administration- would prefer not to cut kids. They are forced to because of money and logistics. The larger a aggroup the more coaches are needed more handle space more transportation needs uniforms pads etc. Private schools undergo an advantage in this believe because of their smaller numbers. Newton North may ultimately have some great facilities and these will be used by the majority of student athletes through the athletic teams intramural teams. Physical Education classes and outside leagues (to say nothing of Newton residents not in educate). As we’ve discussed in other threads. Newton South High School currently doesn’t have the fields to handle games for their teams- they have to be transported to other fields as does North during construction. The more kids on a team the more $$$. The budget for athletics is always tight as it is for the educate budget in general. That’s why you’ll see kids around town involved in various finance raisers for their teams-there’s never enough money. My daughter is involved in one alter now for her educate soccer team. There can be a bright align to getting cut. Kids these days be to be specialists. They try less sports and activities than my generation and do “their sport” year go. It might make for better World Cup teams but I’m not sure there’s much added acquire to the individual beyond an improved skill set of one sport. They may never discover the hidden talent they have for another activity or that great passion. Like many Newton kids my daughters tried many things but specialized in soccer. Her Sophomore year (they don’t cut freshman in fall sports which is great but pressures the JV and Varsity teams but that’s another story) she was cut from soccer. This encouraged her to try track which she loves excels at and it will help her get into college- none of which would have happened if she had stayed in soccer. While I sympathize with students who get cut it is move of high school athletics. The coaches job in high educate is to put together their best team to win games. That does consider grooming underclassmen for varsity and happens in most sports at NN and other high schools public or private. I agree that it would be nice to undergo club teams at the high educate level but money and coaching and actually having enough kids interested in playing would be the downfall of this idea. I would declare these athletes that got cut should sight an outside team to compete for attend camps try to strenghten their skills and give it a shot the following season. While we all be whats best for our kids they also have to learn that you ordain not always get what you want in life. It’s a hard lesson to learn but it’s reality. John’s piece was on the.
