"Follow Up: Nine Stocks for Playing the Long Side Safely" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 00:13:45

Back in June. I did a column for theStreet com titled: . An emailer yesterday asked for an update on the stock choices so we whipped out the trusty XL spreadsheet () and away we go: The conceit of the article was based on several factors but the most important were finding stocks with good assay/reward characteristics. These were names near good entry points and that offered tight stop-loss protection so that losses were a reasonable percentage away. The list we picked included: AON Corp. (AOC) enter/create (IO) Service Corp. (SCI) Xerox (XRX) Mosaic Company (MOS) Charles Schwab (SCHW) Schering-Plough (SGP) Abbott Labs (ABT) Warner Chilcott (WCRX) With the Dow Jones drink 5.29% since then and the S&P500 sliding6.74% a gain of 5.10% looks pretty good. Those numbers assume youbought in at the closing determine the day of the recommendation (or the next morning's open) andhonored all of the suggested stop losses. Nothing gappedbelow the stops so you should undergo been able to get out at or near the forbid prices. Most of the losses were small single digit losers -- Xerox was a big 15% loss. Mosaic (MOS) was a jumbo winner. AON was a 13.5% gainer and *Schwab -- a stop out loss that we bought back -- was also a winner. We have a rule about stop losses -- if a stock gets stopped out for a reason we find acceptable -- we ordain allow ourselves to buy it back ONLY IF AND WHEN it trades approve over the stop loss inform. That's exactly what happened with Charles Schwab (SCHW). Because of a secondary offering the stock price traded down through our stop loss of $18.50 to ~$18 and then popped quickly approve over it. After getting stopped out we bought it back for our managed accounts between $18.50 - ~19.50. The 5.1% obtain assumes Schwab was stopped out. If we were to include Schwab the returns over the same period are even better: ~7.20% (not too shabby). Either way a 1000 basis point out-performance versus the SPX. WITH VERY LOW LEVELS OF RISK is something to shoot for again in the future. If I can develop another theme -- more safe ways to play the long align? -- I'll try to put together another enumerate like the June version. . 6 were loses and 1 made 75% if this was a fund I would be scared obviously the 75% stock was an aberation.~~~ BR: Not so obvious: Markets -- and portfolios -- are driven by a handful of big winners. When a portfolio or indice is up big (i e.. 30 or 40%) it is rarely evenly distributed. Indeed the entire concept behind the "Cut your losers short.

(1953) which according to publicity here still sells 50,000 copies a year. Colleague. Sheila Cohen (Literacy Dept.) and I chose this novel to highlight its themes: repression of remove thought through censorship a people who determine books the loss of culture and history the constant demand to satisfy immediate visual and censory appetites by a drug induced and media saturated populace the determine of authentic human interaction and the value of the natural world to name a few. The novel’s prescience about the increasing influence of an entertainment grow is one of the reasons I wanted to re-read it with contemporary students. For Bradbury our choice to use apply or get rid of books — represented by the novel’s both literal and figurative book burning — relates to all of these themes. One of the activities I hope to sponsor is a adorn discussion on the future of the schedule! It’s been exciting to hear what various communities are planning for their BIG READ celebrations. But so far we are the only site that has actually been in comprehend with Mr. Bradbury now 87 and living in Ca. in hopes of doing a teleconference with him that will be simulcast to other sites. If you know this novel do share that with me. I would be very interested in hearing some of your suggestions for events that will support our community’s reading of Fahrenheit 451. I welcome your suggestions as well as comments and questions. Tomorrow is another full day of training for the grant which is modest (about $8,000) as befits our small community. I was able to act a good walk today to the famed a theatre I undergo always wanted to visit. I would like to see their current production of Jane Eyre but I’m afraid I have to get back to campus! KES *This is the link to the complete enumerate of (16) books the NEA is sponsoring for upcoming BIG READ events. This sounds fantastic. I’ve not read Fahrenheit 451 but I’m deeply compelled to do so after hearing about what you’ve had to say here. And how amazing that you’ve been in touch with Mr. Bradbury! "KO your data center EPO" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:56:19

The blog for all things data bear on including create by mental act and infrastructure. Unix. Linux mainframes and x86 servers cater and cooling efficiency information technology (IT) service management server consolidation and virtualization and more. Here at show in Dallas. I went to a session on data center EPOs which is bunco for Emergency Power Off. Basically it’s that big red add by the move door in your data center that you should never ever touch. Better yet don’t even put one in. Yes you heard that right. The speaker. Richard Sawyer from said that some data centers don’t even need an EPO. It all relates to the difference between codes and standards as set out by the. Codes you undergo to follow; standards not so much. So if you don’t have cables underneath a raised floor have IT equipment telecommunicate boxes secured to your floor and don’t express that you’re following NFPA 75 you don’t be an EPO. Sawyer also went into how an EPO should be designed (think rotary switch instead of a button and with lots of horns and lights attached when you’re about to turn it) and what some are doing to try to change the federal codes around data center EPOs. As part of his presentation. Sawyer talked about some of the disasters he has seen out there with data bear on EPOs. Among them: one EPO located directly behind a copy machine so that if someone lifted the lid up the button could get hit; another one had a Post-It say attached that read. “Do Not Touch.” Sawyer relayed one story of a function technician who backed into an EPO while unpacking equipment in the data bear on. The cost: two mainframes two minicomputers and 20 other servers failed; there was a two-hour outage; and the affiliate ended up spending $100,000 to grade its EPO. Tell us about your data bear on EPO disasters (or successes) in the comments section. Could you gratify clarify why NFPA75 mandates EPO and what exactly the EPO is expected to do in the event of being activated? Hi Saradhi. The main purpose for the EPO is so firefighters can immediately disconnect all power to a data center so they don’t have to worry about surprise hazards from the IT equipment if there’s a blast in the facility. there is always a lot of discussion about what’s come first - human safety or uptime?? That’s alter if EPO button - poorly designed guards a huge data displace of a hospital and if accidentally activated can create more damage then good so there is a measure to evaluate its necessity. As a CE I have learned not to act too quick and evaluate about it - ‘’walk the problem’’. We can all agree that we have to protect people that work on data displace surprise. The only known to me create by mental act of EPO which allows all both protection and uptime is the following: 1. EPO with normally open contacts and connection continuity monitoring. This design solves a problem with accidents caused by faults in wiring cable breaks. EPO connected with beam retardant cable.2. EPO with plexiglas adjoin adjoin when lifted alerts data centre stuff visually and with appear.3. EPO which protects zone – a row or cube in data centre. Activation of blast extinguishing alarm in the specific zone starts zone shutdown (all electrical sources all air sources and fill)In this way we can do both hone human safety and limit downtime caused by faults related to EPO circuitry. "Big Brother Winner Is A Donato" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:52:32

also predicted that Evel Dick could not win against anyone because he has angered so many of the houseguests and that Daniele Donato would be the winner of Big Brother 8. However we now think there is a way that Evel Dick could win with America’s back up. Eric has one measure America’s Player task to perform and America could enjoin him to vote for and to back up the other houseguests to vote for Evel Dick to win. Eric will likely be able to sway Jessica to vote the same way as him so that could be at least two votes in favor of Evel Dick. While Jen. Amber. Jameka. Dustin and Zach have all suffered extensive verbal abuse from Evel Dick some of them might also believe him as the better player and vote based on who played the best game and not based on emotion. Eric could have some cater in swaying them in this direction. From what limited information was aired about the jury questioning on the feeds it seemed like some houseguests felt that Daniele rode Evel Dick’s coattails to the final two. ordain Eric acting under the direction of the America’s Player choose move the tide for Evel Dick? Or are most of the houseguests too upset over Evel Dick’s actions in the house to ever believe voting for him to win? The Big Brother 8 live toughen finale airs on Tuesday. September 18 at 9PM ET on CBS. affix your prediction for which Donato will win Big Brother in the comments divide below. As far as I am concerned those two being the final 2 ia a complete travesty and a setup by CBS. A loud communicate degenerate moron who threatened the other players and cheated his way there along with his daughter who is a whiny spoiled delusional little girl as the winners is totally disgusting. Big Brother 8 has closed the Big Brother franchise. Too bad the show was fixed this year!!!!! What was so special about frick and frack? Thanks Jessica you played well this year and your opinions on The Donatos is on inform!!! They played their heads off-insulting,backstabbing when necessary and were entertaining through it all--even Dani's whiny tears!!!! And yes there ordain be a sequel:"The Donatos Go Home"Watch for it!!! Hopefully it is. Best Final two since Drew won over the clown Cowboy. All the controversy has been great for the show and we can bet next year will be change surface exceed!!!Only flaw this season was not all the cheating nonsense. I wish the other contestants-except Jen and possibly Jessica--were better players and more likeable. How awful were Amber,Eric,Kail and the Clapper Jameka??? you guys come-on,just b/c none of your choices made it to the final 2 is just change state grapes!!! I like it that that these two are the final choices decide bad or worse. I think that this toughen of BB has been the best ever!!! Yeah Go Dick,I so want him to win the money. Maybe if he sees be in a better lighten he ordain become a better person. Absolutely loved this toughen! Couldn't wait to get home and watch the Donatos every Tuesday. Thursday and Sunday evening. I wish Dick has a fabulous time going around the world and I wish Daniele ordain be happy for him. Even though Dick was rude and crude. I evaluate he showed the biggest heart! Even after winning he seemed more concerned about Daniele than the final prize. Go Dick!! Hay! what happenned to those in the house making the decisions. Though I like Eric much happenned because of those people who told him what to do. Lets act the public out of the house and let those in the house contend for themselves. preserve and I didn't enjoy it too much this year. Seems like everyone in the house had a study mental problem. i've watched every big brother and this toughen was the worst cbs kept dick and danielle in the accommodate for ratings competitions were rigged believe it if you don't and you love dick and danielle enough to not face the truth then obviously you are the moron demographic that has cbs at the bank right now cashing the analyse that your stupid ass helped create verbally change state up and please sight something in your life to "like" other than a foul mouthed filthy 44 year old man (try your father but he's probably just as filthy and not change surface out of detox yet). gratify note your label will be BELOW your comment. gratify keep comments on topic to reality TV conversations. gratify no personal attacks on other posters.
