I just wrapped up two different sessions on IP-based storage one on iSCSI configuration and one on performance characteristics and comparisons between iSCSI and NFS. I couldn’t liveblog the first session because it was too crowded (no room to type on my laptop) and I couldn’t get a wireless signal from the VMworld 2007 communicate.  There are however a couple key points from the session that fasten out in my object: ESX Server does not currently give MCS (multiple connections per session) or jumbo frames two key optimizations that can really help with iSCSI performance.  There is no evince yet on when those shortcomings ordain be addressed; personally. I’m hoping that VMware fixes them in ESX 3.5. There is apparently some way of performing manual fill balancing of iSCSI LUNs to help alter performance.  The speakers did not go into any great details and I was unable to speak with one of the presenters. I returned to the Moscone bear on for a session titled “NFS and iSCSI - Performance Characterization and beat Practices.â€�  I was really hoping to get some additional best practices on using NFS and iSCSI and on maximizing performance with these IP-based storage solutions. The session started with some performance characteristics with ESX Server today vs. ESX Server 3.0.1; basically it was an modify of some performance data presented last year at VMworld 2006. These updated performance statistics are intended to show the results of optimizations that undergo been incorporated into ESX Server.  This includes optimizations like improved and more accurate CPU accounting (this improves load balancing across VMs) improved PAE support minimized NUMA overhead improved CPU cost per I/O increased maximum assign sizes and the ability in handle more concurrent I/Os. Hey all,For some reason. I can't seem to evaluate this out. I have an external umass hard control detected as sd0 by my computer. However immediately on starting the control goes into offline mode. It then will not respond to any commands. For example: $ sudo fdisk sd0 fdisk: DIOCGDINFO: Input/output error fdisk: Can't get disk geometry please use [-chs] to contract. Now this `Input/output error' occurs on all commands that I try to run. I read through scsi(8) and ioctl(2) and noticed that I can send some commands to the drive. I was thinking that there might be a wake-up command that I could send. However. I can't find a enumerate of those commands. Did I just desire them?Ideally I would like to keep the control awake when I am using it but undergo the option to manually put it to sleep when I don't want it around. Description is required When I try to runsonic exe scriptdata /out App_DataI get the error below. I only have ONE Binary field in my database. (Binary(3)) which I evaluate is causing the problem.
